Our experienced and expert team can arrange for a wide range of professional presentations and workshops at your preferred location or here on our farm.
From our inspirational personal story of moving from suburbia to an off-grid farm with our 4 teenage kids to professional talks exploring the issues of growing food in a changing climate we can design a presentation or workshop suited to your audiences needs.
We also offer a range of half day and full day design and practical skills workshops relating to growing your own food and can provide these at our farm or at a suitable outdoor facility.
Some of the popular practical skills workshops include:
An Alternative Life Farm is the perfect place to give students exposure to a truly sustainable food system and to explore the critical relationship between the health of our natural environments and our food systems.
From primary school through to adult learning we provide hands a wide range of themed activities and educational experiences to choose from that are appropriate for the age and learning needs of your students.
Activities include a wide range of sustainability-based games that encourage critical thinking about the impacts of various developments on our native wildlife and how they can make choices and undertake activities that directly benefit the local and global environment.
FEEDBACK FROM CANBERRA GRAMMER GIRLS TEACHERS.
“ Thank you so much for organising a wonderful day for our students. We had lots of positive feedback from the girls, who found the activities engaging and practical. A common refrain was “I actually learned something!” (this is the highest praise you can get from a Year 9 student!).
We’d be keen to repeat the experience next year if possible; the only thing I’d do differently is allow more travel time to maximise our time at the farm.
Thank you again for a great day!
Our farm is located on the boundaries of land that was managed in a sustainable way for tens of thousands of years by the peoples of the Ngunnwal, Wiradjuri and Gundagarra nations. Evidence on the farm shows that it was once used as a source of food, fibre and shelter by local Aboriginal people and was a potential site for gathering resources needed to make spears and other tools. We acknowledge the ongoing pain and injustice that resulted from the displacement of traditional owners from this land and all of their lands. We respect the knowledge of traditional owners past and present, and the special relationship they have with their country. We recognize that it is only thanks to past sustainable land management practices that enables us to still use the land as a source of food and shelter today.
